Dr. Owen F. Smith is the Director of the Intermedia MFA Program and the Innovative Media, Research and Commercialization Center at the University of Maine. He has held a professorship in the Department of Art and in the Department of New Media where he was awarded the Alston D. and Ada Lee Correll Chair in New Media. He has taught at the University of Maine since 1991 and during this time was a co-founder of the New Media Program (1992), was the founder of the Intermedia Program (2008), and the PI for the recent 3.69M MTI grant for the University’s Innovative Industries Initiative. He has published over 40 books and articles and his own creative art and design work has been presented in over 90 national and international venues. His achievements have been recognized by the University of Maine with Professor Smith receiving the Presidential Outstanding Teaching Award in 2000 and the Presidential Research and Creative Achievement Award in 2009.
